Situated close to the pristine Lake Illawarra, Koonawarra is a suburb of the Illawarra it is positioned West between Wollongong and Shellharbour, and only a short 96 kilometre journey to Sydney. Koonawarra is made up of residential properties, and newer style townhouses. Koonawarra is a transitional neighbourhood, with new subdivisions and larger homes positioned high on the hill. It appeals to families and first home buyers, with the
convenience of being close to local parks, schools and most home owners enjoy stunning day and night time views of Lake Illawarra. Also a popular choice of location for workers who commute to Sydney and property investors, due to the continued capital growth potential in the future.
Koonawarra is home to 3,774 residents (as at 2016 ABS Census) and has an area size of 2.0 square kilometres. Only 16 kilometres south of the major CBD and some of the best beaches that the South Coast offers.

 

Schools
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting a great place for childcare, primary and secondary schools around Koonawarra. There are two public High Schools one is located in Kanahooka and the other on Cleveland Road in Dapto. There is one major Primary School in the suburb being Koonawarra Public School, and many more conveniently in each suburb of Dapto these include; Dapto Primary, Hayes Park Primary School, Lakelands Public School and Mount Brown Primary School. Local childcare facilities include Little Peoples Dapto, Goodstart Early Learning Centre, Big Fat Smile, Grandma Rosie’s and Dapto Cuddles Child Care, with many family day care centres there is no lack of childcare facilities available for working family’s needs. There is also plenty of direct bus routes to higher education and secondary schools both North and South of Koonawarra. 

 

Shopping
With Dapto Mall, it is home to a large selection of speciality stores, Big W, Woolworths and Coles, its provides plenty of undercover parking to enjoy a pleasant shopping experience in any weather. Along the Princes highway resides Aldi’s, great Cafe’s, bars and restaurants to suit local residents who enjoy eating out or a night of take away convenience. If you do not feel like taking a drive into Dapto, there are a few local shopping complexes
within walking distance. Koonawarra Shops is made up of a Butcher, Bakery, Takeaway shop, Convenience Mart and a Hairdresser and Beautician.
Parkside Plaza houses a BWS Bottle shop, Newsagency and a Food Works, with added space to park, why duck into Dapto to pick up those day to day must haves.

 

Entertainment
Enjoy a spot of dancing, dining and good laughs at Dapto Leagues which regularly hosts many local, national and international talent on a regular basis, a spot of bowls of Dapto bowling club and Dapto Citizens Club, or a night out at the Dapto Old pub or Dandaloo Hotel, which all cater for functions and sporting events. On a Thursday night, Dapto showground is the place to be for the famous “Dapto Dogs” and is also the location for events such as the annual monster trucks tour, Dapto Agricultural show and many more yearly calendar events.
Koonawarra is perfect if you enjoy leisure activities, if you love getting out on the water, jet skiing, fishing, cycling, walking along the foreshore all the way around the headland toTallawarra or a BBQ picnic by the lake.

 

Transport
Bus routes are accessible all around Koonawarra, whether the commute is North, East or South, having major bus stops along Fowlers Road (right outside the Public School and Shops), Gilba Road, and Wyndarra Way with multiple pick up or drop off stops in between.
Freeway access is an easy few minutes’ drive wherever you may location within the suburb of Koonwarra, making it an easy commute to work via car, or leave your car at home or at the station car park and catch the train to Sydney, which is roughly an hour and a half train trip, or plan a day out with the kids down to Kiama, Berry or Bomaderry, which takes the same amount of time to drive as it does to catch the train.
For students who study at the local TAFE or the renowned Wollongong University, it is a quick 15 trip up the M1 freeway from Koonawarra.
