Kanahooka at a glance...

 

Situated between the beautiful Illawarra Escarpment and the pristine Lake Illawarra, Kanahooka is a suburb of Wollongong and positioned West between Wollongong and Shellharbour, and only a short 96 kilometre journey to Sydney. Kanahooka is made up of residential properties, rural allotments and some strata title units. It appeals to families, retirees and those who enjoy a family friendly community, and the convenience of being close to local parks, schools and most home owners enjoy views of Lake Illawarra, it is also a popular choice of location for workers who commute to Sydney and property investors.
Kanahooka is home to 5,655 residents (as at 2016 ABS Census) and has an area size of 4.0 square kilometres. Only 16 kilometres south of the major CBD and some of the best beaches that the South Coast offers.


Schools
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting a great place for childcare, primary and secondary schools around Dapto. There are two public High Schools one is located in Kanahooka and the other on Cleveland Road in Dapto. There are multiple Primary schools located conveniently in each suburb of Dapto with Dapto Primary, Hayes Park Primary School, Lakelands Public School, Mount Brown Primary School and Koonawarra Public
School. Local childcare facilities include Little Peoples Dapto, Goodstart Early Learning Centre, Big Fat Smile, Grandma Rosie’s and Dapto Cuddles Child Care, with many family day cares there is no lack of childcare facilities available for working family’s needs. There is also plenty of direct bus routes to higher education schools both North and South of Kanahooka.

 

Shopping
With Dapto Mall we have a large selection of speciality stores and is also home to Big W, Woolworths and Coles, it provides plenty of undercover parking to enjoy a pleasant shopping experience. Along the Princes highway resides Aldi’s, great Cafe’s, bars and restaurants to suit local residents who enjoy eating out or a night of take away convenience.
If you do not feel like taking a drive into Dapto, there are a few local shopping complexes within walking distance. Dandaloo Shops has a Food Works, Butcher, coffee shop, Post Office, Newsagency, Chinese restaurant and a takeaway, otherwise kickback and enjoy a beer and bite to eat at the Dandaloo hotel or opt for a takeaway from the bottle shop. Lake Line shops situated on Lakeside drive, has a Chemist, Hairdresser, Butcher, Fish and
Chips takeaway, convenience store and an Aquarium store. You an even take your fish and chips across the road to the newly established kid’s playground and watch the kids while you sit in the undercover BBQ area by the lake.

 

Entertainment
Enjoy a spot of dancing, dining and good laughs at Dapto Leagues which regularly hosts many local, national and international talent on a regular basis, a spot of bowls of Dapto bowling club and Dapto Citizens Club, or a night out at the Dapto Old pub or Dandaloo Hotel, which all cater for functions and sporting events. On a Thursday night, Dapto showground is the place to be for the famous “Dapto Dogs” and is also the location for events such as the annual monster trucks tour, Dapto Agricultural show and many more yearly calendar events. Kanahooka is home to multiple sporting fields and leisure amenities, if you enjoy water sports, fishing, cycling or a BBQ picnic by the lake, then Kanahooka is the place to live.

 

Transport
Bus routes are accessible all around Kanahooka, whether the commute is North, East or South, having major bus stops along Kanahooka Road, Lakeside Drive, Thirroul Road and Exmouth Road with multiple pick up or drop off stops along the way. Freeway access is an easy few minutes’ drive wherever you may location within the suburb of Kanahooka, making it an easy commute to work via car, or leave your car at home or at the station car park and catch the train to Sydney, which is roughly an hour and a half train trip, or plan a day out with the kids down to Kiama, Berry or Bomaderry, which takes the same amount of time to drive as it does to catch the train.
For students who study at the local TAFE or renown Wollongong University, it is a quick 15 trip up the M1 freeway from Kanahooka.
